Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Moscow on October 27, 2026, on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit, where they reviewed expanding bilateral trade, energy projects including Bushehr nuclear plant construction, and the Middle East situation amid ongoing regional tensions. This followed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s October 19 visit to Tehran for talks on economic, nuclear, and security cooperation under the 2025 strategic partnership. Traders monitor these diplomatic contacts closely because scheduled summits, bilateral visits, and mediation efforts in active conflicts can trigger additional meetings within short windows, while shifts in U.S. policy after the November 3 midterms or escalation signals could alter the pace of high-level engagement.
