Ilse Aigner holds the highest implied probability in this market at 62.5 percent, driven by the CSU's sustained push for the Bavarian state parliament president as the conservative bloc's nominee ahead of the January 30, 2027 Federal Convention vote. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has publicly stated the next president should be a woman from the political center, aligning with SPD and Green preferences for gender balance and boosting cross-party viability for Aigner. Other named contenders such as Julia Klöckner, Karin Prien, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, and Boris Rhein trail at lower odds, reflecting ongoing CDU internal deliberations and the absence of a finalized joint proposal. Numerous unspecified outcomes trading near 50 percent underscore the fluid nomination process and potential for late shifts before the convention, which requires 631 votes in early rounds.
Germany is currently scheduled to indirectly elect a new president on January 30, 2027. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of President of Germany by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially sworn in as President of Germany. Any interim or caretaker President will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such President takes office by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Germany; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
