  • League City, Texas passes ballot measure approving the police use of Flock Cameras?19¢19%

League City voters face a Nov. 3 advisory ballot measure on whether police should retain their 55 fixed Flock Safety automated license plate readers (ALPRs), with recent council action making a “No” majority trigger automatic removal or covering within 72 hours. Police data show the system aided 305 investigations and recovered roughly $1 million in property, strengthening arguments for continued deployment of the real-time plate-matching technology. Privacy advocates highlight risks of mass surveillance and data access without warrants, prompting the first such public vote in Texas and the addition of a planned five-member Citizen Data Privacy Committee if the measure passes. Early voting begins Oct. 19, and trader sentiment at 66.5% “Yes” reflects the documented law-enforcement benefits outweighing localized backlash ahead of resolution.
