Recent internal divisions within the UK Green Party, sparked by a conference motion declaring Zionism a form of racism and Polanski’s absence from the vote while campaigning, have driven calls for his resignation from figures including the chair of Jewish Greens and former leaders. His subsequent second-place finish in the October 2026 Holborn and St Pancras by-election, combined with record-low approval ratings and reported membership declines plus councillor defections, has heightened scrutiny of his leadership. Party rules limit policy changes until 2028 and schedule the next leadership election for summer 2027, anchoring trader consensus around structural barriers to an early exit while noting risks from sustained factional pressure or further electoral setbacks.
