The tight race for Waterloo mayor centers on incumbent Dorothy McCabe facing a rematch against 2022 runner-up Shannon Weber, with the October 26 election eight days away and voter priorities split between property taxes, housing supply, and municipal spending. McCabe's record since 2022 on transit, climate initiatives, and development approvals underpins her position in trader assessments, while Weber draws support from suburban wards and her municipal government experience. Recent candidate forums have highlighted contrasts on levies and downtown growth, with McCabe publicly noting Weber's absence from one event. The presence of lower-polling contenders including Jeyas Balaskanthan, Jamie Hari, and Jerry Jiang fragments the field but has not yet shifted the balance. Late developments such as ward-specific turnout, final policy contrasts, or turnout mobilization could widen the gap before polls close.
