The closely matched odds for multiple candidates to become the next Knesset Speaker reflect the fragmented post-election landscape after Israel's October 2026 vote, which left Netanyahu's bloc with 53 seats and the opposition change bloc with 48, short of a majority in the 120-seat chamber. Opposition leaders including Gadi Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, and Avigdor Liberman are coordinating to replace incumbent Amir Ohana at the November 10 swearing-in, a move that would require Arab party backing to reach the needed votes and grant control over the agenda and committees even before a government forms. Yair Lapid has emerged as one floated name alongside Oded Forer and Elazar Stern, but internal bloc divisions, sensitivities around Arab cooperation, and potential abstentions keep consensus elusive. Upcoming presidential consultations and any early Knesset vote will test whether a unified choice materializes or the position remains open.
Following the Israeli legislative election scheduled for October 27, 2026, the 26th Knesset is set to hold an internal election for the position of Speaker of the Knesset. This market will resolve according to the name of the candidate that becomes Speaker of the Knesset as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Speakers appointed before the election will not count. If this election does not take place or the results of this election are not known by February 28, 2027, 11:59PM ET, this market will resolve to "No speaker by Feb 28". This market will resolve based on official information from the Knesset or a consensus of credible reporting.
