  • Total Internet Blackout in Iran by December 31, 2026?30¢30%

Iranian authorities imposed near-total nationwide internet blackouts twice in 2026, first during January protests over economic conditions and currency collapse, then again from February 28 amid U.S. and Israeli strikes, cutting traffic below 1% of normal for roughly 88 days until partial restoration began in late May following a presidential order. Connectivity has since returned to restricted, tiered levels featuring heavy filtering, whitelisting for select users, and limits on international platforms, with no full blackout recorded since. Trader assessments reflect the high economic costs of prior shutdowns, institutional preferences for controlled access over total isolation, and risks from renewed protests, Supreme National Security Council decisions, or regional escalation that could trigger rapid re-imposition of controls before year-end.
