Iva Jovic, the 18-year-old American ranked No. 14, enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against qualifier Francesca Jones. Jovic advanced with a straight-sets win over Magdalena Frech after a rain-delayed opener, showcasing strong return play on outdoor hard courts where she holds a solid career record. Jones, ranked No. 104, reached the main draw via three qualifying victories and secured her first US Open main-draw win against Magda Linette in a three-set battle also affected by weather. The Brit has posted strong results on clay with recent WTA 125 titles but faces a significant ranking and experience gap on this surface against the rising American prospect. No prior head-to-head exists, and both players compete shortly after their opening matches amid a compressed schedule.
