Lorenzo Musetti enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against Dane Sweeny, reflecting his ATP ranking of 14 versus Sweeny's 123 and superior recent Grand Slam pedigree. Musetti secured a straight-sets win over Arthur Fery in his first major match since retiring from the Australian Open quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic, showing improved fitness after months of injury setbacks. Sweeny reached the round of 64 for the first time by advancing past Corentin Moutet via retirement after leading two sets to one, capitalizing on a career-best 2026 season that includes prior Grand Slam main-draw appearances. No head-to-head history exists between the players, though Musetti's consistent hard-court results and experience against lower-ranked opponents position him strongly on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows.
