Redistricting by Tennessee Republicans in May 2026 transformed the Memphis-area TN-09 into a Republican-leaning seat after incumbent Democrat Steve Cohen retired, shifting its presidential lean dramatically toward the GOP. Republican nominee Brent Taylor secured the primary with an endorsement from President Trump and has emphasized public safety, immigration enforcement, and data-center regulations, aligning with the district's new voter base. Democrat Justin Pearson, who won his primary, focuses on gun safety and healthcare but trails in forecaster ratings that classify the race as safely or likely Republican. A September internal poll showed Taylor ahead by four points, and early voting through late October has not altered the trader consensus reflected in current pricing. Election Day is November 3.
