French legislative snap election prospects remain low amid the final months of President Macron’s term. With the 2027 presidential contest set for April 18 and May 2 first and second rounds, Macron faces no immediate constitutional pressure to dissolve the National Assembly before handing power to his successor. Recent polls show Marine Le Pen leading first-round voting at 35–38 percent, positioning her against Jean-Luc Mélenchon or a centrist in a likely runoff, while the fragmented center and ongoing fiscal pressures—including budget negotiations and student protests—have kept attention on the presidential race rather than legislative disruption. Traders price the probability of a snap call by mid-2026 near 2 percent, reflecting the political costs of another early vote after the 2024 dissolution, the one-year cooldown period that has long expired, and the preference among major parties to contest the presidency on the existing parliamentary map. Key upcoming catalysts include the 2027 budget vote and any further no-confidence motions against Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s government.
