Tsai Yi-yu, the Democratic Progressive Party candidate and former legislator, holds a commanding lead in the Chiayi County Magistrate race as the designated successor to incumbent Weng Chang-liang, whose handover has unified the party’s “vitality team” and local organizations. Strong endorsements from President Lai Ching-te, emphasis on technology industry growth including TSMC-related projects, and welfare expansions have driven his elevated online visibility and estimated vote share near 60 percent in recent analyses. The November 28 election occurs in a county with consistent DPP advantages in local contests. Trader consensus reflected in current pricing accounts for this structural edge and recent momentum, though factors such as unexpected turnout shifts, opposition consolidation around Wu Pin-jui, or last-minute developments could still alter the outcome before polls close.
