Diana Shnaider enters the US Open third round as the clear favorite against Taylor Townsend, backed by her No. 16 ranking, 15th-seed status, and consistent hard-court results including a Washington semifinal and Toronto quarterfinal. The 22-year-old left-hander has dropped just one set across her first two matches, defeating Daria Snigur and Karolina Pliskova in straight sets. Townsend, ranked No. 96, has shown strong form with dominant straight-set victories over Maja Chwalinska and Taylah Preston, leveraging her veteran lefty game and home-crowd support in New York. With no prior head-to-head meetings and both players excelling on hard courts this season, trader consensus reflects Shnaider’s edge in consistency while acknowledging Townsend’s potential to push sets or capitalize on momentum in front of a supportive audience.
