Janice Tjen, the seventh seed ranked No. 35, faces Yuliia Starodubtseva in the second round of the WTA 500 Monterrey Open on outdoor hard courts. Tjen advanced after a three-set battle against Dayana Yastremska, firing 12 aces and prevailing in a tiebreak, while Starodubtseva posted a straight-sets win over Lilli Tagger to reach this stage. Tjen holds a career-high ranking and stronger overall win-loss record this season, though both players have shown mixed recent form on hard surfaces with no prior head-to-head history. Serving efficiency, break-point conversion, and recovery from first-round efforts represent key variables on the Monterrey courts.
