Iga Swiatek enters the Wuhan Open semifinal as the clear favorite against compatriot Maja Chwalinska, backed by her superior ranking, elite consistency on hard courts, and straight-sets run through the draw that includes a 6-4, 6-1 quarterfinal win over Ann Li. The seven-time major champion has dropped minimal games while chasing WTA Finals qualification and another WTA 1000 milestone. Chwalinska, ranked No. 22 and on a career-best Asian swing, arrives with momentum after three-set victories over Iva Jovic and Maria Sakkari to reach her first WTA 1000 semifinal. The pair, former junior doubles partners, have only one prior professional meeting, which Swiatek won decisively years ago. Swiatek’s recent illness adds a minor variable to the outdoor hard-court matchup.
