Elina Svitolina enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against Maya Joint, backed by her No. 9 ranking, veteran consistency on hard courts, and strong 2026 form that includes a Toronto semifinal run and a dominant first-round win over Solana Sierra. The 31-year-old Ukrainian has compiled a 41-12 record this season with multiple deep runs, leveraging superior baseline depth, court coverage, and experience in Grand Slams. Joint, a 20-year-old Australian ranked around No. 72, advanced past Liudmila Samsonova in three sets but carries a mixed recent record and limited prior success against top-10 opponents. Surface familiarity and rest dynamics favor the higher seed on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows, though Joint's aggressive style offers upset potential in longer rallies.
