Juan Manuel Cerundolo enters this US Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts ranked around No. 51, coming off a Winston-Salem quarterfinal run that ended against Ignacio Buse after a retirement win over Sebastian Baez. The left-hander has historically struggled to translate his clay-court success to hard surfaces. Arthur Gea, the 21-year-old Frenchman ranked near No. 87, arrives as a lucky loser following Casper Ruud's withdrawal and carries strong momentum from his first ATP title at Los Cabos, where he defeated Francisco Cerundolo en route and posted multiple top-100 wins on hard this season. No prior head-to-head exists, but Gea's recent hard-court form and rapid ranking climb position the contest as competitive despite the ranking gap.
