Katrina Scott and Varvara Lepchenko meet in the first round of the WTA 125 Kia Open on outdoor hard courts in Barranquilla, where the 22-year-old American holds a slight ranking edge in recent hard-court results but trails the 40-year-old veteran 1-1 in head-to-heads. Lepchenko’s most recent win came on hard in Mérida qualifying earlier in 2026 (6-4, 6-3), while Scott took their clay encounter in Queretaro. Both players enter with middling 2026 hard-court records around .500, though Lepchenko’s greater experience in longer rallies and pressure situations on this surface shapes trader consensus around a competitive matchup. Schedule rest, any late hard-court adjustments, and the value of ranking points at the 125 level remain the primary variables heading into the contest.
