Julieta Pareja, the 17-year-old American ranked No. 284, enters this US Open qualifying second-round match on hard courts with strong momentum after a straight-sets upset of No. 9 seed Kayla Day. The Carlsbad native has compiled a solid 2026 record on hard surfaces, including recent ITF titles, and benefits from home-crowd support at Flushing Meadows. Iryna Shymanovich, the 29-year-old Belarusian at No. 191 with a career-high ranking of 150 earlier this year, advanced past Rebeka Masarova in three sets and brings greater experience plus a higher ranking. The matchup pits Pareja’s recent form and youth against Shymanovich’s veteran consistency on a surface where both have posted competitive results.
