McCartney Kessler, the American ranked around No. 65, faces 18th-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round of the 2026 US Open on hard courts. Alexandrova holds the ranking edge and leads their head-to-head 1-0 after a straight-sets win on hard in Ningbo last year. Both players enter with inconsistent 2026 hard-court results, though Alexandrova showed flashes by upsetting world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Toronto earlier in the month while maintaining a strong US Open first-round record. Kessler has struggled against top-20 opponents recently and holds a modest Grand Slam win rate, but the home crowd at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center provides situational motivation in this matchup of contrasting experience levels.
