The Williams sisters, 44-year-old Serena and 46-year-old Venus, enter this US Open women's doubles first-round match as wild cards after limited recent play together, including a first-round Cincinnati loss in a deciding tiebreak and Serena's knee injury that ended their Wimbledon doubles plans. They face No. 14 seeds Chan Hao-ching and Maya Joint, a pairing that has quickly reached a Memphis final and other strong results this summer. Joint defeated Serena in singles at Wimbledon, and Chan holds prior doubles success against the sisters. Scheduled for Arthur Ashe Stadium night session, the matchup pits the legends' experience and Grand Slam pedigree against the younger duo's current form and seeding advantage.
