Tristan Buckmaster's public allegations against OpenAI center on claims that the company replicated his unpublished Euler-equation methods—developed with Anthropic researcher Levent Alpöge using Codex—shortly after he revealed his identity in early September 2026, while pressuring him to drop his co-author from any joint credit on a related Navier-Stokes result. OpenAI has categorically denied that Buckmaster’s prompts influenced its internal model or training data, attributing its September proof announcement to an agent swarm operating independently. The dispute highlights tensions around customer data handling in large language model development, competitive AI research practices, and authorship in AI-assisted mathematics. Traders are watching for any formal legal filing or new statements that could clarify whether the conflict escalates beyond public accusations.
This market will resolve to "Yes" if Tristan Buckmaster files a lawsuit against OpenAI, or any of its subsidiaries, executives, or employees, by 11:59 PM ET of the date specified in the title. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A lawsuit in which Tristan Buckmaster is a named plaintiff, alone or jointly with others, will qualify. An announcement of intent to sue or a legal threat will not qualify; a lawsuit must actually be filed in court. The primary resolution sources for this market will be official information from the relevant court. However, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
