The Toronto Blue Jays (68-70) visit the Cleveland Guardians (69-68) for a three-game series at Progressive Field starting September 1, a pivotal AL Wild Card matchup with the Guardians holding a 1.5-game lead over Toronto for the final playoff spot. The Blue Jays enter on a three-game winning streak after sweeping the Mariners, bolstered by strong recent August performance (17-11), while Cleveland went 13-13 last month and sits second in the AL Central. Probable starters include Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams (12-7, 3.98 ERA) against Blue Jays right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (7-7, 4.81 ERA). Both clubs face extensive injury lists, particularly Toronto's rotation, and the Blue Jays lead the season series 2-1 heading into the contest.
