Flavio Cobolli enters the 2026 US Open first round as the No. 6 seed and world No. 6 after a breakthrough season that included a French Open final, Wimbledon quarterfinal, and Cincinnati semifinal, compiling a 31-18 record with strong hard-court results. Francisco Comesana, ranked No. 119 with a 16-22 mark in 2026, has struggled recently and enters on the back of multiple early exits. Cobolli holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge after a three-set clay win at Monte-Carlo earlier this year, and his superior firepower, serving consistency, and baseline depth align well with hard-court demands at Flushing Meadows. Traders price Cobolli as a heavy favorite reflecting his elite form and ranking gap, though Comesana’s experience on the surface and ability to extend rallies represent the main variables that could test the Italian early.
