Persistent inflation and resilient U.S. economic growth have driven the 30-year Treasury yield to around 5.31% as of late October 2026, after peaking near 5.67% earlier in the month. The Federal Reserve held its federal funds target range at 3.75–4.00% at the October FOMC meeting while noting a strong economy and elevated inflation, with September PCE rising 0.5% month-over-month and 3.6% year-over-year. Third-quarter GDP expanded at a 3.4% annual rate, exceeding expectations. Real yields have accounted for most of the rise in nominal rates this year, reflecting firmer growth and policy expectations. Markets price a high probability of a December hike, with the next Summary of Economic Projections due at that meeting. Traders are monitoring upcoming inflation releases and labor data for signals on whether long-term yields can sustain or extend recent gains before year-end.
