Michele Ribecai and Filippo Romano, two rising Italian players ranked 288 and 301, meet in the final of the inaugural Banca Mediolanum Florence Open on clay. Romano holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge after defeating Ribecai in Rome Challenger qualifying earlier in 2026. Both reached this stage with strong recent performances, including Romano’s straight-sets semifinal win over Sandro Kopp for his first Challenger final appearance on the surface and Ribecai’s victory over Oriol Roca Batalla. Ribecai, the older and slightly higher-ranked player from nearby Lucca, benefits from local support, while the younger, taller Romano has posted a higher 2026 win rate. The winner claims a first Challenger title, career-high ranking, and valuable points toward Australian Open qualifying.
