Jesper de Jong holds a narrow edge over qualifier Francesco Passaro in this US Open first-round hard-court matchup, driven by his No. 100 ranking versus Passaro’s No. 207 and a 2-0 head-to-head lead, including a five-set win at Roland Garros 2025. De Jong enters with stronger recent hard-court results and Grand Slam experience, though his 2026 form has been inconsistent. Passaro arrives with momentum after sweeping three qualifying matches in straight sets, his first main-draw appearance since 2025, despite lingering effects from a wrist injury earlier in the year that limited his schedule. The evenly matched contest on outdoor hard favors the higher-ranked Dutchman’s return game and consistency, but Passaro’s straight-set qualifier form and prior competitive meetings keep the outcome in doubt on Court 10.
