Raphael Collignon enters this US Open first-round match as the heavy favorite due to his ATP ranking of No. 38, career-high of No. 37 reached after a 2026 Gstaad final, and multiple Grand Slam appearances including a third-round run at the 2025 US Open. The Belgian has compiled a strong 2026 record with wins over higher-ranked opponents on varied surfaces, though his recent hard-court results include a three-set loss to Rinky Hijikata in Winston-Salem. Sebastian Gorzny, a 22-year-old American wild card ranked around No. 760, earned his main-draw spot via the USTA collegiate playoff after a standout Texas college season but brings limited professional experience and has struggled in recent ATP-level outings such as an early exit in Winston-Salem. With no prior head-to-head and both players on outdoor hard courts, Collignon's established serve-return consistency and match toughness create a significant edge against the debutant.
