The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, Central Division rivals, met in a physical home-and-home series during the first week of the 2026-27 NHL season. Colorado improved to 4-2-0 after a 3-2 road win on October 13 despite missing Cale Makar for personal reasons, as Martin Necas scored twice and Nathan MacKinnon added two assists. Dallas fell to 2-3-1 while playing without Wyatt Johnston (illness) and Joel Kiviranta (lower body), though Tyler Seguin recorded a goal and assist and Roope Hintz fought MacKinnon. The October 14 rematch in Denver featured goaltending adjustments with Casey DeSmith expected for the Stars and Scott Wedgewood for the Avalanche, amid ongoing roster absences for both clubs including Matt Duchene’s long-term injury. Recent form, special-teams execution, and depth contributions shaped early-season positioning.
