Janice Tjen enters the Monterrey Open first round as the seventh seed and world No. 35, holding a clear edge over Dayana Yastremska due to superior recent ranking, hard-court results, and a 1-0 head-to-head lead that includes a straight-sets win in Dubai earlier in 2026. Tjen arrives off a third-round loss in Cincinnati but has posted stronger overall hard-court numbers this season despite a mixed 2026 record. Yastremska, a former top-20 player now ranked around No. 112 and entering on a wildcard, shows inconsistent form with limited success against top-50 opponents and a sub-.500 win rate in 2026. Both players have struggled for consistent momentum on the outdoor hard courts that define this WTA 500 event, though Tjen’s higher ranking and stylistic edge on the surface underpin the market’s implied probability favoring her advancement.
