Nishesh Basavareddy, the 21-year-old American ranked 163, enters this US Open first-round hard-court matchup with stronger recent momentum after a successful qualifying run that included three wins in four days, highlighted by victories over higher-ranked opponents. He holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge over Schoolkate from a straight-sets win on hard courts last year and boasts a better 2026 win rate alongside prior Grand Slam progress, including a second-round appearance at the Australian Open. Tristan Schoolkate, the 25-year-old Australian ranked 180, also advanced through qualifying but carries a lower ranking and more mixed results this season, though he has reached the US Open main-draw second round in prior years. Both players favor aggressive baseline play suited to the fast New York courts, with Basavareddy’s youth and current form positioning him as the consensus favorite in trader pricing.
