Hugo Gaston enters the US Open qualifying first round as the clear favorite against Guido Ivan Justo, holding a substantial ranking edge (around No. 88-97 versus Justo’s No. 223-233) and greater experience on the ATP Tour and in Grand Slam events. The left-handed Frenchman brings solid hard-court results this season despite a mixed 4-8 record, including recent Challenger play, while Justo, a 28-year-old Argentine making his Grand Slam qualifying debut, has built momentum primarily on clay through South American Challenger events and a recent title. The hard-court surface and best-of-three format in New York favor the higher-ranked player’s consistency and return game, though Justo’s physical baseline style and recent form offer underdog potential in what remains a competitive opening-round matchup.
