Carlos Alcaraz enters the US Open quarterfinal as the clear market favorite, having returned from a four-month wrist injury layoff with minimal rust, dropping just one set through the round of 16 while extending a strong Grand Slam win streak. The second seed holds a 3-0 head-to-head edge over Ben Shelton, including a four-set victory at the 2025 French Open, and leads the season with a 26-3 record. Shelton, the eighth seed, arrives with strong hard-court momentum after capturing the Montreal title and a dominant straight-sets win over Stefanos Tsitsipas featuring 12 aces and no break points faced. The American has noted improvements in serve, return, and baseline play since their last meeting, positioning the night-session hard-court clash as a high-intensity test where home support and Shelton’s power could create realistic upset opportunities despite Alcaraz’s superior experience and consistency.
