Botic van de Zandschulp enters the US Open first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts with stronger recent momentum and a 21-18 record for 2026, including solid wins over higher-ranked opponents during the North American swing. Jan Choinski, ranked just outside the top 75, arrives with only three main-tour victories this season and three straight losses on hard courts heading into Flushing Meadows. Van de Zandschulp leads their head-to-head 2-1, though all prior meetings occurred on clay. The Dutchman's greater experience at ATP level and proven hard-court results position him as the clear market favorite, while Choinski's clay-court background and recent ranking gains offer limited counterbalance on this surface.
