Trader consensus reflected in the 93.8% market-implied odds for no NYSE marketwide circuit breaker before 2027 stems primarily from the extreme rarity of S&P 500 declines reaching the 7% Level 1 threshold outside acute crises, with the last triggers occurring in March 2020. Current conditions reinforce this view, as the VIX hovers near 16-20 amid resilient U.S. GDP growth near 2.2% for 2026, robust corporate earnings expansion exceeding 25% this year, and no major overnight shocks. Moderate implied volatility and a lack of systemic liquidity strains have kept daily moves well below historical breaker levels, consistent with base-rate expectations for non-recessionary periods. Potential swing factors include an unexpected geopolitical escalation, sharper-than-forecast 2027 earnings deceleration from AI spending fatigue, or a rapid policy shift that could elevate tail-risk probabilities.

Reguli

This market will resolve to "Yes" if a marketwide circuit breaker is triggered on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) at any time between November 7, 2025, and December 31, 2026. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A marketwide circuit breaker is defined as a trading halt that is initiated due to significant declines in the S&P 500 Index, specifically a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 halt as per NYSE rules. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the NYSE, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
