Brandon Nakashima enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against fellow American Alex Michelsen, driven by his stronger hard-court form and higher ranking. The world No. 17 has posted deep runs in Montreal (final) and Cincinnati (semifinal) this summer, including wins over Medvedev and Fritz, while compiling a 22-9 hard-court record and a dominant 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 first-round win over Baez. Michelsen, ranked No. 46, has shown consistency with a Challenger title and solid showings in Washington and Montreal but trails in overall momentum and elite-level results. With no prior head-to-head and both players riding straight-sets openers on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows, recent performance and ranking differentials shape the current trader consensus.
