South East Melbourne Phoenix host Cairns Taipans at John Cain Arena on October 17 amid contrasting recent form in the NBL27 season. The ninth-placed Phoenix enter on a two-game skid after a 105-115 home loss to Brisbane, where rebounding woes were evident without center Jordan Hunter and amid sloppy turnovers. Hunter returns to bolster the frontcourt, though guard Tanner Krebs remains a game-time decision with a neck issue and Nathan Sobey is day-to-day with a corked quad. Cairns, sitting fourth at 4-3, carry momentum from recent wins including against Brisbane, despite absences for Sunday Dech (hamstring) and Jaylin Galloway (shoulder). Home-court advantage and roster reinforcements shape expectations for a competitive matchup between the sides.
