Learner Tien enters this US Open fourth-round clash with strong momentum after three straight victories on home hard courts, including a five-set comeback against Jakub Mensik that featured resilient baseline defense and support from the New York crowd. The 20-year-old American, ranked No. 15 and seeded 14th, has posted a 29-15 record in 2026 and reached the Australian Open quarterfinals earlier in the year. Karen Khachanov, ranked around No. 50, has revived his form with an upset of third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round after a difficult season marked by an 18-20 win-loss mark entering the event. The 30-year-old Russian brings Grand Slam experience, including a 2022 US Open semifinal, but lacks recent consistency and faces a first meeting against a younger opponent excelling in return play and counterpunching on the fast hard courts.
