The Guardians host a critical four-game series against the Tigers at Progressive Field, beginning with a split doubleheader on September 4. Cleveland sits at 70-70, holding the second AL Central spot and a half-game lead over Toronto and Texas for the final wild-card berth, while Detroit stands at 64-75 and 8.5 games back. Keider Montero (9-8, 3.24 ERA) faces Logan Allen in the opener, followed by Andrew Sears (0-1, 6.75 ERA) against Foster Griffin (15-4, 3.21 ERA) in the nightcap. The Tigers, managed by A.J. Hinch, view the matchup as a key test for extending their playoff streak amid recent offensive and bullpen inconsistencies, whereas Cleveland benefits from home-field advantage and stronger recent rotation depth in a tight division race.
