Carlos Alcaraz enters this US Open second-round match as the heavy favorite and defending champion, fresh off a straight-sets return from a four-month right wrist injury layoff with a controlled 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Roman Safiullin that left him reporting full pain-free mobility and normal ball-striking. The 23-year-old Spaniard faces Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria, ranked No. 72 and riding momentum from a five-set first-round victory over Jenson Brooksby plus a recent Top-10 win over Ben Shelton in Cincinnati. This marks their first career meeting on hard courts, where Alcaraz’s superior experience, seven major titles, and higher baseline level create a significant gap despite Faria’s improved consistency and all-four-majors main-draw wins. Trader consensus reflects Alcaraz’s form edge and the level disparity, tempered by any lingering effects from his abbreviated 2026 schedule.
