Bartunkova, the 20-year-old Czech ranked No. 34 with a recent career high of No. 38, enters as the clear favorite after a dominant first-round win over Mayar Sherif and a strong hard-court run that included a Monterrey semifinal appearance. Maria, the 39-year-old German at No. 83, brings momentum from her three-set upset of 30th seed Jelena Ostapenko in the opening round, her fifth time reaching the US Open second round. The matchup on Court 13 pits Bartunkova’s power baseline game and youth against Maria’s experience, slice-heavy style, and recent form, though the age and ranking gap shapes trader expectations for the hard-court encounter.
