Jiri Lehecka, the ATP No. 19 and 18th seed with a career-high ranking of No. 12, enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite on outdoor hard courts after a four-set first-round win over Pablo Carreno Busta. Toby Samuel, ranked No. 110 and making his Grand Slam main-draw debut via qualifying, arrives with strong momentum after a straight-sets upset of former top-20 player Tomas Machac in round one, his first major victory. Lehecka brings superior experience, including a prior US Open quarterfinal, while Samuel’s recent hard-court results and serving power create realistic upset potential despite the significant ranking gap. No prior head-to-head exists between the pair.
