Ignacio Buse enters the US Open first-round matchup against Marcos Giron on a strong run, having captured the Winston-Salem title on hard courts days earlier to reach a career-high ranking near No. 30 while extending a five-match winning streak. The 22-year-old Peruvian also holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge after a three-set victory over the American on grass at Queen’s in June. Giron, ranked around No. 78 and playing at age 33, has posted mixed hard-court results this season and lost three of his last four matches overall. The rain-delayed encounter on outdoor hard at Flushing Meadows gives Buse additional recovery time, though Giron’s greater main-draw experience on the surface remains a factor in this best-of-five set contest.
