Alexander Zverev enters the US Open second round as the top seed and French Open champion after rallying from two sets to one down in a grueling five-set win over Lorenzo Sonego on hard courts, extending his perfect head-to-head record against the Italian. The 29-year-old German, ranked No. 2 and a 2020 US Open finalist, has compiled a strong 2026 season highlighted by deep runs at Wimbledon and consistent ATP-level results. Quentin Halys, ranked around No. 52, secured his first US Open main-draw victory in five attempts by defeating Facundo Diaz Acosta in four sets. Zverev holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge, including a straight-sets win earlier this year, giving the favorite a clear advantage in experience, serve strength, and hard-court consistency despite the physical demands of his opener.
