Elina Svitolina enters the Cincinnati Open second round as a significant favorite against Tereza Valentova due to her No. 9 ranking, extensive experience on outdoor hard courts, and a 25-7 record on the surface this season. The Ukrainian reached the Toronto semifinals recently and holds a first-round bye, while the 19-year-old Czech Valentova, ranked around No. 64, advanced past a qualifier but carries a 15-10 hard-court mark. Their first career meeting highlights a clear experience and consistency gap, though Valentova has shown promise in recent upsets and strong qualifying runs. Surface conditions and potential fatigue from the North American swing remain key variables that could influence the outcome in this WTA 1000 match.
