Elena Rybakina enters the Cincinnati Open round of 32 as the clear favorite against Taylor Townsend, backed by her world No. 2 ranking and a 34-11 singles record in 2026 that includes an Australian Open title. The Kazakh's powerful serve and baseline consistency have produced strong hard-court results, while Townsend, ranked No. 110 and a doubles world No. 1 or 2, has shown improved singles form on North American hard courts with recent wins in Toronto and a successful Cincinnati qualifying path. Their lone prior meeting saw Rybakina prevail in three sets at the 2024 Miami Open. Key variables include Townsend's left-handed variety and aggressive shot-making for potential upsets, Rybakina's rest and experience edge, and the fast hard-court conditions favoring the higher-ranked player's power game.
