Taylor Townsend enters her US Open second-round matchup against Taylah Preston after a straight-sets win over 20th seed Maja Chwalinska, leveraging her left-handed game, experience at the event, and strong recent hard-court results. The 30-year-old American, ranked around No. 96, has reached the fourth round here multiple times and maintains a solid 2026 singles record while excelling in doubles. Preston, the 20-year-old Australian wildcard ranked No. 100 after cracking the top 100 for the first time, arrives on strong momentum following a dominant first-round victory over Alycia Parks and a recent WTA 125 singles title in Vancouver. The pair has no prior head-to-head history, with the hard-court surface and Grand Slam setting highlighting Townsend's veteran edge against Preston's youth and improving depth on serve and return.
