Iga Swiatek enters the US Open second round on a strong hard-court run, having captured the Toronto title and reached the Cincinnati semifinals before dispatching Wang Xiyu 6-2, 6-3 in her opener while facing no break points. The eighth seed and 2022 Flushing Meadows champion holds a perfect 3-0 head-to-head record against lower-ranked opponents and maintains a long streak of first-round major wins. Nadia Podoroska, ranked No. 449 and relying on protected ranking, notched her first US Open main-draw victory in six attempts by rallying past Simona Waltert but remains far removed from consistent elite-level results following extended injury absences. Their lone prior meeting ended in straight sets for Swiatek at Roland Garros 2020.
