Elina Svitolina enters the Wuhan Open round of 16 as a heavy favorite against wildcard Hanyu Guo, reflecting her world ranking near No. 6-7, consistent hard-court results this season, and recent three-set win over Liudmila Samsonova. The Ukrainian has secured WTA Finals qualification and brings superior experience in high-stakes matches on outdoor hard courts. Guo, ranked No. 240 and primarily a doubles specialist, has generated momentum with back-to-back three-set victories, including a first career win over a top-20 player in Sorana Cirstea and a tiebreak decider against Katie Volynets. The pair has no prior tour-level meetings, though Svitolina’s depth and mental resilience in extended rallies position her to control the baseline exchanges.
