Tereza Valentova, ranked No. 87 with a career-high of 42, holds a clear ranking edge over 16-year-old Xinran Sun at No. 405 in this Hong Kong hard-court first round. Valentova’s recent hard-court activity includes wins over Shuai Zhang in Tokyo qualifying but losses to Mia Pohankova and Lilli Tagger, reflecting steady but inconsistent form on the WTA Tour. Sun, a Chinese wildcard, arrives with strong momentum after reaching the Guangzhou semifinals, defeating Maria Timofeeva, Claire Liu, and Harriet Dart on the same surface while showcasing junior pedigree that includes the 2026 US Open girls’ title. No prior head-to-head exists, and both players favor hard courts, though Sun’s recent results against higher-ranked opponents highlight her rapid progress and potential to challenge the favorite in a closely contested opener.
